Gattungsprodukte, Generic products
This can also be done by means of a database query (without barcode, without manufacturer). For a short form of the database without exact (only approx.) data, an aggregation of the nutritional values from genera/categories/classifications would be helpful (example: salami). See Swiss nutritional database "generic foods".

Handle updated product changes for updated ingredients/nutrition
Back sometime around end of 2019 or 2020 Kirkland brand updated their protein bars where one notable change was swapping the old problematic "dietary fiber from tapioca starch" for "soluble corn fiber". I can edit the existing entry (https://world.openfoodfacts.org/product/0096619356096/cookies-and-cream-protein-bar-kirkland-signature) but ideally the site can offer functionality to duplicate or link to existing UPC codes a new entry for say "2020 US version" in cases where both old and new products are on the shelves at the same time due to back stock. In general it could also be helpful to see how product ingredients and nutritional characteristics change…

Make niche diets more accessible
Providing what kinds of meat/fish are used in a non-vegetarian product could help make informed choices for more niche diets, like pescetarian or maybe religious based.
Manufacturers don't always make it clear what kinds of animals are used in their products (i.e. gelatine). Displaying that it can potentially contain pork could help for Jewish, Islamic, and some Christian orthodox diets, while warning that it could potentially contain beef could help for Hindu diets. Same goes for pescetarian diets, to show that the product is not vegetarian, because it contains fish, but no meat present.
Providing other potentially contained meats, could…

food of food
First of all, thank you for your great work!
I would like to add foods or recipes for which there is no barcode. So a bread that I often bake or a tomato-potato soup. For this, it is necessary to enter foods for which there is no barcode.
That is possible, but such simple things are probably rarely recorded. If I search for 'tomato', I get ~400 products that contain processed tomatoes, but little about the tomato itself. I just found: https://de.openfoodfacts.org/produkt/20240059/strauchtomaten-bio-organic which I think is a negative result (I would simply ban organic tomatoes from being sold in this…1 vote -

Create food inventory functionality for families using the openfoodfacts database
It would add so much more vallue to the existing app to be able to add the scanned products to your food inventory. How many items you have currently in stock, which items are out and need to be purchased, create a shopping list, add expiry dates of food to avoid food waste ...
Thank you for considering this. If I can help with the analysis let me know.

Allow amounts to be entered as quantity
Many foods are measured (at least by consumers) in quantity (1apple, 30 Jelly beans, etc.). I have not seen this option. I have also had trouble entering units in some other places. I think all amounts should be entered as a number & a unit (possibly Count) so that there is no need for assumption or confusion.

Algorithm to evaluate the "cost" of transportation from factory to user location
I bought 3 different Skyr products , only to realize that one was produced in Slovenia and an other one in an other foreign country and a 3rd one in Normandy (France). If Open food facts has the factori(es) locations for a given product, there could be a way to evaluate the Carbon impact of transportation

Add basic ingredients
Currently when you search for something like 'tomato', you don't get a result for a regular raw tomato. Instead you get a bunch of tomato based products. Please add basics to the database. Or make them easier to find if they are in fact there.
